How to get a quote
When asking for a quote, please give me as much of the following information as you can:
Please also give me a sample of the content (or all of it), which should be fairly typical of the whole thing.
Then, I can decide whether I’m willing and able to do the work and, if so, estimate how long it would take. This will depend on things such as the length of the material, its quality and complexity, and the type of service you’re looking for. If I am willing and able to do it, I’ll give you a quote, based on this estimate, and make it clear what it includes.
Finally, before I go ahead with the work, I’ll need you to accept my terms and conditions.
- your company or organisation (unless you’re working as an individual)
- a brief description of the document, book, etc.
- its target audience
- its format (Word, PDF, etc.)
- how many words it will have (including tables, captions, notes, references and anything else with text that I would need to check)
- whether it will have special features that will need to be checked, such as tables, illustrations and references; and if so, roughly how many of each
- the type of service you need
- any style guide to be followed, and any other special requirements
- the timeframe: when you would send the material to me for editing or proofreading, and the required completion date
- any extra help you’d like me to provide, such as helping you with resolving my queries.
