I can copy-edit in Word with Track Changes. I also can mark up proofs (blind or against copy) on a PDF file, using either Adobe Acrobat’s Comment functions, or stamps for the BSI mark-up symbols.
TrainingAs part of my initial training, I completed the Basic Proofreading and Copy-editing courses run by the Publishing Training Centre (PTC), passing both with merit. As well as helping me to learn my trade, these gave me an insight into how copy-editing and proofreading fit into the publishing process.

‘Graham has copy-edited several books for us and his work has consistently been of a very high standard. His application of house style and attention to detail is nothing short of excellent and I am happy to recommend him.’ Dean Rockett, Pitch Publishing |
I’ve also made use of a number of courses run by the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP, formerly the Society for Editors and Proofreaders), and its mentoring schemes for proofreading and copy-editing.
